A no-recipe recipe for you and me from my friend Georgianna Johnson. With summer berries in full swing, use the best you can find (homegrown, locally grown, organic), mash in a jar with a fork and stir in a spoonful of honey or maple syrup, a sprinkle of chia seeds, a tiny pinch of salt, and a twist of black pepper and some crushed fennel seeds if you’re feeling adventurous. Keep refrigerated and use within a few days to top Greek yogurt or sweeten overnight oats.
In winter use frozen berries, simply load some into a jar, defrost overnight in the refrigerator and proceed with fork mashing. Meyer lemon juice and pomegranate arils are wonderful additions during mixing or at serving time.
