Au natural, or sprinkled with a touch of cinnamon-sugar, you decide. After pulling a couple sheet pans of these apple chips out of the oven and discovering their crispy, sweet-tart deliciousness, I’m embarrassed to admit I ever purchased apple chips. Consider also the delightful baking aroma and good-for-you-snack quality…you just have to do it!
(Great as a snack, but try it as a garnish for soup (apple-cauliflower) or coleslaw and pulled pork.)
Ingredients
- apples
- slice of lemon or lime
- cinnamon-sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
- Slice the apples as thinly as possible. (I imagined using a mandoline, but my apples were too wide to fit and I didn't want to cut them. Guess what? Using a chef's knife works just fine.)
- Place the apples in a single layer on a parchment (or Silpat) lined baking sheet, rub each apple slice with the lemon (or lime), and pop the pan in the oven for an hour.
- After an hour, flip the apple slices over, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar, if you wish, and bake for an additional 15 - 30 minutes, until crisp.
